Trullo Bellissimo is set in the world renowned Val d’Itria just five minutes from the beautiful hill city of Ostuni, at the end of a single track road, and privately set in three acres of established olive and fruit grove. The grounds are accessed via electronically controlled gates which ingress upon a parking area close by the villa. Laundry facilites are housed separately, and all buildings are fully secured via an integrated security system. All windows and doors are fitted with mosquito netting, and fully integrated with our security system. External lighting throughout the formal grounds has been designed for those balmy evenings, whether sitting around the pool with your favourite cocktail or or using the gas or wood BBQ’s, to impress your friends or family with gastronomic endeavours . The 260 metre deep artesian well offers a plentiful supply of water to irrigate the gardens and supply your personal needs. All windows are double glazed for maximum security and insulation. Central heating is plumbed throughout. During colder months all interior soft furnishings are changed to warmer, heavier drapes and bed linen for your superior comfort. Trullo Bellissimo has retained all of the features and characteristics of a typical trulli residence in Puglia, but presents a stunning & modern holiday rental.
Accessed by front or rear door is open plan, light, with high stone ceilings, and tiled floors. The kitchen is everything you would expect in a modern home, there is dining for six, and an open plan living area. In addition to central heating there is also a ‘stufe a pilletti’ which is a form of European log burner, which quickly heats the entire space in cooler weather. Entertainment is provided by television with digital freeview channels, and DVD/CD player. There is a large library of books, CD’s and DVD’s for guests to borrow. We also supply a portable docking station for iPod and MP3 players, which can be connected at any external socket . There is also Wi-Fi access for laptops and a router to allow you to work outside. All of the original stone walls and arches have been retained, such that you can imagine being in a medeaval trulli residence in Puglia, but one that has been sympathetically restored to exacting modern standards.
To one end of the house through a narrow stone archway is the principal bedroom and bathroom. Once again high ceilings, and tiled floors create light, cool spaces. Dominated by the mahogany four-poster bed (king size), and with minimum furniture, but a big ceiling fan, this is a room given over to the art of staying cool in the hottest of weathers. As the windows are large and east facing we have built interior wooden shutters. The windows themselves are fitted with mosquito netting to allow airflow. This room was the original kitchen of this old trulli residence in Puglia, but is now an elegant modern holiday rental bedroom. Exit the bedroom through a small vestibule (with large built-in wardrobe and drawers), to the principal shower room. Decorated in cool green and blue Bizazza mosaic, and fitted with WC, bidet, and handbasin, large shower head and detachable shower feature.
To the opposite end of the living/dining area is the ancient 300 year old trullo with its conical stone roof. This magical area is accessed through a larger archway into a smaller dayroom which has been described as a scene from the ‘Arabian Nights’. The exotic ethnic room is complete with richly hung tapestries, Eastern paintings, a beautiful Morrocan lamp and Arab style lounger, which can be used as an occasional daybed, or additional sleeping for children to the age of twelve years. This area is separated from the dining area by chiffon curtains, and from the trullo bedroom by an oak door. The Ethnic Room was created entirely from within the three metre thick stone walls of the ancient trulli residence in Puglia.
The original dwelling, quite unique in its architecture, we have left largely untouched. The original stone walls have been retained, and the king-sized bed now sits in the same space as the original straw mattress. Two small windows are set high up and deep into the stone for maximum airflow. Again a large ceiling fan, suspended from the apex of the cone, and marble floors will ensure cool during the burning heat of summer. In keeping with the feeling of this space, it has been decorated with rich colour and texture, an elaborately tooled Arab coffee table with Berber cushions and Moroccan daybed to one end of the room enhance the impression of a more Byzantine ambiance. The shower room is accessed directly from the bedroom, and although small, is beautifully conceived in rose marble tiles throughout, with again the beautiful Bizzaza mosaic in the shower area, and a large head shower and detachable shower feature. In ancient times this trulli residence in Puglia would have seen the cattle sleeping under the same roof as the inhabitants, you can still see some of the retained features of this era.
Pool & Gardens
The house is surrounded by our grounds, which are completely walled and fenced. The land has a mixture of olive and fruit trees, smaller shrubs and herbs. We do not treat the land or trees with any chemicals, and therefore encourage you to explore and pick anything that is in season and looks good to eat. To the rear of the property, and the most private part of the grounds, is the formal garden, kitchen garden, pool, outdoor kitchen, terraces and laundry room. The outdoor kitchen built as part of a large covered terrace has a food preparation area and sink, refrigerator, wood-fired and gas barbecues. The external dining table is an impressive 2 ½ metre single slab of marble. There is seating for eight. Two large terracotta containers are planted with kitchen herbs.
